The 2008 Apertura tournament was part of the 2008/2009 Primera Division in Argentina. Three clubs (San Lorenzo, Tigre, and Boca Juniors) ended with the same number of points, and therefore a playoff was played to determine the champions. After three games (Tigre-San Lorenzo 1-2, San Lorenzo-Boca Jrs 1-3, and Boca Jrs-Tigre 0-1), Boca Juniors were champions for the best goal difference and José Sand (Lanus) the top scorer with 15 goals.
For this tournament, Panini published a sticker album, which follows the album Clausura 2008 released earlier the same year. However, the album Apertura 2008 is different from the others, because it is a pocket album 12 x 9 cm (coleccion de bolsillo). This is not the first Panini experiment of this kind, as also the Panini Campeonato Uruguayo 2005 was a pocket album. Luckily Panini abandoned this experiment and did not release pocket albums in the following years.
The collection Panini Apertura 2008 has a total of 130 stickers and each sticker includes four mini stickers (2.3 x 3cm) numbered from 1 to 480 for the players and from E1 to E40 for the club badges. In addition, there are 120 cards to be collected separately, composed by 118 players and two checklist cards.
The album shows first the Primera Division followed by the Primera B with no other sections with stickers. Clubs of Primera Division have 17 mini-stickers over two pages, whereas the Primera B clubs only 9 mini-stickers on one page. Thus the album features only 10 metallic badge stickers (for a total of 40 club badges) and 120 player stickers (for a total of 480 mini players stickers).
