Panini Futbol 91 (Colombia)

Panini produced a sticker album of the Colombian league for the third time, after the editions 1988 and 1989. It is a marvelous collection similar to the albums released in Europe in the 80's. Apart from the club pages, there are special sections dedicated to the league and the National team, with several metallic stickers.
The Colombian championship 1991 was contested by 15 teams in a regular season followed by a final round in which the 8 best teams took part. Atletico Nacional won the title with 16 goals scored by the young striker Faustino Asprilla. The best scorer of the league was Ivan Valenciano (Junior) with 30 goals.
The album begins with an introductory page of the league with four stickers: the president and logo (metallic sticker) of the Colombian Football Federation and the president and logo of the Major Division of the Colombian Football (Division Mayor). In the following two pages, the Colombian National team is included to celebrate the Fair Play trophy won at the Copa America 1991. In this section there are the metallic stickers of the tournament logo and the Fair Play trophy, the team photo of the Colombian selection (composed by two stickers), the coach Luis Augusto Garcia, and 10 stickers for a total of 20 players. In those years, Colombia had a strong National team with Higuita, Escobar, Rincon, and Valderrama. The latter was playing in 1991 for Real Valladolid in Spain, where he was joined by Higuita in 1992. Colombia got only the fourth place in the Copa America 1991 won by Argentina, but they were entitled of the Fair Play trophy.

The album continues with the club pages. The first two clubs, America and Nacional, have a total of 27 stickers displaced over three pages: the metallic badge, stadium, team photo (two stickers), action photo (two stickers), the president/manager, and 20 stickers of players. The other 13 clubs have only 15 stickers over two pages, with the difference that the players do not have individual stickers, but they are coupled with two players per sticker.

After the Atletico National and before the other clubs, there are special sections with stickers. The first one is a small box with the results of the Copa Libertadores 1991 won by Colo Colo, in which the Atletico National reached the semifinals. Here there is the metallic sticker of the Copa Libertadores trophy. In the next page the format of the Campeonato Profesional Colombiano is presented, together with the metallic stickers of the trophy "Copa Campeon", followed by one page dedicated to the referees of the league. In this page there are three stickers with six referees and the metallic sticker of the Referee Panel logo.

The last part of the album includes a section of three pages about the Primera B (the second Colombian league). Here the tournament system is explained and the 10 contesting clubs are presented with the team and badge stickers.

  1. Hello! Regards! What happened to the 1988 stickers of Atlético Bucaramanga, Cúcuta Deportivo, Junior de Barranquilla, Deportivo Pereira and Deportes Quindío, and the 1991 stickers of Junior de Barranquilla and Deportes Quindío that were not published? Thank you!

  2. Hi, Thank you for your question. In this blog you find most of the pages of the albums, but not all. I try to take pictures of the most significant pages, but I leave some pages out (for reason of time and to reduce the length of each post)
