Despite the disappointing World Cup 1978 with the National Team, Panini dedicates the cover of the album Football 79 to Michel Platini with the French shirt. This season is the last for Platini with Nancy, before his transfer to Saint-Etienne. Strasbourg won the league (56 points) and the Argentinian Carlos Bianchi was top scorer (27 goals).
The album includes both the clubs of Division I and Division II. First, the 20 clubs of Division I are shown in alphabetical order. Each club is displaced over two pages with 16 stickers: club badge (metallic sticker) and 15 players. Stickers of this collection are small size, but details of the players are printed on the album under each sticker.
Division II clubs are divided in two groups. First, group A is shown with a page collecting all the the club badges (18 badges for a total of 9 metallic stickers). Then there are 12 players per team printed on 6 stickers (two players per sticker). Here also the album is filled with details of each player. The same layout and amount of stickers is repeated for Group B.
In the last part of the album there is a section dedicated to the French club Stade de Reims. Here the best years of the club in the 50's are described with 23 stickers in black and white and a text of Leon Glowacki, who played for the club in those years.
Two fantastic players of this album: Carlos Bianchi, top scorer of the season 1978/79 with 27 goals, and Roger Milla
